Ok ladies so we all know about that not so fresh feeling right? We are hot and sticky, then we look in the mirror and to our horror we are just as shiny and oily as piece of chicken (all that is missing is the biscuit and a side)! So having had oily skin all my life this is something I have to deal with on a daily basis.
When I was a teen my way to deal with this was to re-apply with my makeup compact to smooth away the oil which only resulted in me looking like a Lil Miss Makeup doll (does anyone remember those besides me???) This method of shine reduction is not healthy for your skin it just further clogs your pores and this results in acne and breakouts.
So my next attempt was a makeup sponge that you can get at any beauty supply store. Supposedly this works as a way to soak up the oil without reapplying makeup and clogging your pores. Each sponge costs $2.00 and the directions tell you it's ok to reuse a sponge you just soaked in makeup and oil. How healthy can that be??? You are still infecting your face with oil and makeup. EWW!
Well thanks to my good friend MAC (yes I am giving you a shout out girl!) I have recently discovered blotting paper. To all those like myself, until recently anyway, I had never heard of this clever invention. Essentially it is a little book filled with sheets of unique, absorbent, microporus linen that you can tear out blot your face and then throw away! How genius! These pocket sized sheets absorb excess oil and banish shine without disturbing your makeup and can easily fit into your wallet or purse. Both sides of the blotting paper can be used before discarding. I am in love! They are small and easy to conceal so no matter where you are you can always give yourself a little pat. I even recommend them for men who have oily/combination skin as a discreet way to remove access oil.
Now there all types of blotting sheets but some of the more popular brands are: Bare Escentuals, Sephora brand, and Shiseido which are all available at Sephora ranging from $8-$17 for 100 sheets. I also recommend the Clean and Clear's oil absorbing sheets, and The Body Shop's blotting tissues can all be found in the $8-$10 price range.
So if you have oily or combination skin this would be a great investment.
P.S.
I wouldn't recommend getting this as gift unless it is tastefully added to a gift bag full of other makeup goodies. It may impart the wrong impression so let's go for the subtler approach as we know how sensitive we can be about our skin.
