Mama's Assumption!

The owners of Cabo, Mike and Anthony Roberson, have opened a new Cajun place in west Houston — on the edge of Chinatown, actually — called Mama Assumption’s (6609 Sam Houston Pkwy. S.). They named the restaurant after Assumption Parish in Louisiana, which is right smack in the middle of the path that Hurricane Katrina took when it made landfall in 2005. Asked why they put a Cajun restaurant in Chinatown, Mike says, “The Asian community loves seafood, just like the Cajuns. We also have fried rice on the menu. Besides, we’re close to major engineering companies that employ a lot of people from Louisiana, and even though we’ve only been open three weeks and have done no advertising, the word’s out. At lunch, we’re slammed every day, and at least 30 percent of our customers are natives of Louisiana.”Mike says the menu “is a mixture of authentic Cajun food like red beans and rice, blackened redfish, étouffée and crawfish, with soul food like oxtails and fried chicken and waffles.” Happy hour, which offers up $.29 oysters, $.39 wings and $.49 shrimp, is packing the place. Along with the bar, the fresh seafood display takes up most of the expansive back wall of the restaurant, making it easy to see what you’re getting.

How Green are Your Relationships?

Do you know how green (healthy) your relationships are? Whether they are friends or lovers- how well do they keep you balanced? Do they provide you with all the elements you need to have a productive day? Do they maintain who they are with you so that you have consistency in your life? If you have relationships in your life that you cannot answer yes to- reevaluate. SO many times we do not guard our minds and daily surroundings like we do your inner body and beauty. Take the time to pamper you life style. Don’t conceal the blemishes in bad relationships- stop feeding yourself the negativity that causes those blemishes. If you feel like your energy is low- turn to those things that bring happiness and positive energy to you. Do not fall into the quick fix trap either- make sure you pamper your life as you would do your body. Take your vitamins and make sure it is providing you with all the daily nutrients that you need to become a healthy and productive….Without a healthy inside, you can never be fully healthy.

Where’s the Beef?

Although I am most definitely a meat eater, I completely support and understand the Vegan lifestyle. It’s not that I can’t live without steak (chicken is another story); I just prefer to have one every now and again. To most people, even considering the Vegan or Vegetarian lifestyle is crazy. They feel as if there is too much to give up, too much they would be missing out on.
So this got me thinking…..
Why are we so afraid to challenge ourselves? Why are we afraid to let go?
We do this sort of thing with every aspect of our lives. We wanna hold onto what we know and what’s comfortable because we’re afraid of what we may miss out on…afraid of the unknown. This is something that plagues us in our careers, families and love lives. We hold our tongues, because we are afraid of the outcome. We stay in the same position at work because we think that the next job may be too hard. We harbor emotions and feelings toward family, instead of expressing ourselves to them. We don’t start that business we’ve been dreaming about, because we are crippled by the very thought of failure. We lose the person we love because we are too afraid to tell them. We’ve been doing this for far too long people.

So here’s my opinion, cause everyone’s entitled to it….
Embrace your fear and use it to get you where you want to be. Ask for the raise, start your business, tell your father how you feel, tell that woman that you love her!
Don’t continue to be held back, because the only one stopping you is you!

Go Green for Lunch!!!

We all know bringing lunch is “Green”, but it’s also very unfashionable. We fashionistas wouldn’t be caught dead carrying a brown paper bag. Instead we stuff our gorgeous purses/totes and risk spilling our salad dressing on the irreplaceable lining. But ladies, times have changed. Designers are becoming aware that we all need to do our part and reuse more often. So I have found 3 looks that will fit most people. The first is good for when you are traveling and having to haul everyone’s water bottle and snacks for the trip. Made of canvas, it has a whimsical design with 2 candy corns on the reverse side. (Canvas lunch bag). Pottery Barn has the second choice which is good for people who need a true lunch bag that carries containers and drinks. Either the bag or the tote should suit most. (Pottery Barn). The totes are sold out but I’m sure they will come back with more. And now for my favorite pick…….the Dooney & Bourke lunch tote collection! Yes, I said Dooney. Now, I must admit, I am definitely more of a Coach girl, but Dooney has absolutely gotten my attention. The zebra print lunch tote is so chic and for $30, you definitely should start a lunch tote collection in your closet. (Dooney)

Envy...

So many times we look at what others have and want it for ourselves. We watch shows like Cribs and think, “Why can’t I have a house like that?” We see people around us driving expensive cars, shopping all the time, spending money like its nothing. Some of us look at those people and are happy for them; we smile at their success, and are congratulatory. However, there are definitely some ‘Green Eyed Monsters’ out there. You can take a look around and see the envy on people’s faces. They are truly jealous of what others possess. So I ask, “Why are such a jealous people?” We crave what others have. Instead of being satisfied with the blessings that God has given us, we are angry at what he’s given other people. We let this jealousy ruin our friendships and our families. The Word of God says in James, “For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.”

We have to stop looking at what others have with jealousy and envy, and instead be happy for the blessings that have been bestowed upon them. If there is something that you want, go out and work to get it. Don’t let envy take control of the way that you live your life. Don’t be so set on keeping up with those around that you stretch your finances thin. Seek God in these matters and know that He will always provide for you.

So here’s my opinion, cause everyone’s entitled to it….
Just because they have it, doesn’t mean you’re meant to.

A New Day

Have you ever woken up feeling so relieved?? Not from anything particular,
but just overall like a weight has been taken off your shoulder. That is a fresh start.
That is how we should wake you every day of our life. Feeling like today is a new day
to conquer all challenges that may be given to us. When you wake up in the morning,
thank God that you have the opportunity to wake up to a new day. A new day to experience, joy, love, peace, and forgiveness. Never take advantage of the opportunity to have a fresh start. Be blessed in knowing that God loves you enough to give you a second chance- take advantage of it and live your life in accordance with His.

Go Green with Organic Bedding!

Have you ever thought that sleeping in bed can be good for the environment? Buying organic bedding is a good way to support the “Green” movement and it’s great for people with sensitive skin. Certified organic cotton is grown and processed without the use of pesticides or herbicides. So you may be thinking, “Organic? Does the material look brown and boring?” On the contrary, a lot of designs will go with today’s popular clean and modern looks. My favorites are from West Elm. From safari print to plain, their styles will suit everyone’s taste. And don’t forget to look for organic towels to go with your new bedding. Everyone needs a little “Green” in their bathroom, as well!

All Mixed Up....

Its hard being young, it’s hard growing up. Children go through so many things from kindergarten to High School, from afternoon naps to graduation. Children are picked on for being too short, being too tall, too thin, too fat, too pretty or not pretty enough. My grandmother (Dad’s side), always thought that I would be picked on for something different and that it would affect the woman I would become. I would overhear her talking to my parents about it, as if they could somehow change the child they had helped God to create. As a kid, I never saw myself as being different so I never understood what she was saying to them. Until one day a kid on the playground at school asked me, “What are you?” My response….. “I’m all mixed up!” I had overheard my grandmother say it. She had told my parents that I would be picked on and that I would have no self- esteem. WRONG!!!!!!!!! To this day I still get asked what I am, and I still have the same response. I love ‘what’ I am because that’s the way my parents raised me.

There are a lot of people out there who are ashamed of what they are, how they look and of what others think of them. The question, “Should we change ourselves?” comes to my mind. I’m all for change, self-improvement and enhancing who you are, but why are you making these changes? Change is for the purpose of following God’s plan, for self-gratification, for the betterment of your life and your children’s lives. The purpose of change is not to satisfy others or to become who they feel you should be.

So here’s my opinion, cause everyone’s entitled to it….
Change for God and change for you! Don’t lose weight cause some man told you that you weren’t thin enough, do it to be healthy. Enhance your life by doing what God instructs is right for you. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle!

Stop the madness….

Ola ladies and gents! Can you all do me a favor and stop the madness? We all get hit on; some of us just choose to handle things a little differently than others.

Men have gotten either really confident or have just been turned down so many times that they feel they have nothing to lose. So this proposes a question…Why can’t we be honest? So many times when a man hits on a chick, she smiles politely and gives up a number (or takes his). Most of the time she’s not even interested, she’s given a fake number or she’s going to trash his the minute he turns his back. Women do this with complete sincerity thinking that they are sparing this man’s feelings. Well, you’re not. Don’t you think this kat’s feelings will be hurt once he calls and hears, “We’re sorry. The number you have dialed is no longer in service.” Letting a guy know how you really feel upfront will help him out in the long run. I told a guy that I wasn’t interested one time and he came back about 10 minutes later and asked me why. I told him that he wasn’t my type and proceeded to ask what he could do to become my type. I told him that first off, I didn’t want a man that was so willing to change for me without even knowing me or what type of person I was. This helped him see how desperate he sounded and maybe….just maybe, he won’t approach the next chick the same way.

So here’s my opinion, cause everyone’s entitled to it…..
Be honest up front. Tell him that you’re not interested. If he asks you why, tell him. Don’t be mean ladies, just tell the truth. And if you just can’t be honest, give him this number….817-326-1433!

Stronger

Sometimes in life, we find it hard to stick up for ourselves. I know some of you may be thinking “Oh no ma’am not I!”, but yeah honey- you too. There are times when we know we are worth more, deserve better, need more, desire better, but yet we stick with what we know- not because we don’t want better, not because we are scared. But because we find that the very thing that is making us feel defeated, or frustrated, is the VERY thing that we want so bad in our life. Instead of saying “ Hey I deserve better and I’m going to get it” or “Hey, I’m not happy in this current situation and I am determined to be happy” , we tend to settle. We tend to push our top concerns out and then try find ways to compromise who we are for others. No more. No more pushing aside who you are to settle for what you really don’t want. Stick up for yourself. Stand your ground in what you want and what you need. Learn to put self first after God. What could go wrong there? Could we lose something or someone we love only to be face with happiness and joy???. Yeah that is EXACTLY what can happen. Don’t be afraid to defend yourself. The worse thing that can happen is you being strong in you.

Pick of the Day!

Contrast Trim Coat WE191 - $148

Try paring our pick of the day with this cool summer tote:

I don’t want him, but he doesn’t want me!

This is something that we all do, whether we choose to admit it or not. Ladies, you know that guy who’s always trying to take you out, do nice things for you, spend a little time? But you ignore him because he’s not so exciting, not as fine as Boris Kodjoe, not the guy you really want…
Guys, you do it too! Why do we really ignore that guy or girl? We roll our eyes when they call or send a text, we think to ourselves that they just don’t get it and then we run around pursuing the person that we really want. Have you ever noticed that the person you really want is doing the exact same thing to you? You have become that guy or girl that keeps texting them, calling them and just trying to spend a little time with them.

I sat down the other day and thought about this. Most of us are not letting God choose who we should be with; we’re trying to do the choosing ourselves. What if that guy who’s a little more quiet and reserved is the guy that God is putting in your face? What if that chick that is kinda cute but not doing it like Halle, is really ordained to be the love of your life?

We are so wrapped up in what we want, that we will completely look past a blessing that God has set forth for us. He has hand picked and gift wrapped this person, and we still look past them.

So here’s my opinion, cause everyone’s entitled to it….
Open your eyes to what God has in store for you. Let him play match maker, cause he knows exactly who to set you up with. Stop running from a possible Love Connection!!
